The Full-Size Evolution: Akko 5108 vs. 5108 V5 – What’s New?

The Akko 5108 series has long been a favorite among users who refuse to compromise on a full numpad. Whether you’re deep into spreadsheets, video editing, or need quick access to number keys while gaming, the 108-key layout delivers exactly what you need. On top of that, the series is famous for its wide IP (Intellectual Property) collaborations, turning your keyboard into a beautiful piece of desk art.

While the original 5108 was already a solid classic, the new 5108 V5 is far more than a simple refresh. It’s a complete structural and technical overhaul. And we will explain why.

Gasket Mount & Flex-Cut PC Plate

Compared to the tray mount adopted by classic 5108, 5108 V5 introduces a gasket mount structure. Combined with a flex-cut polycarbonate (PC) positioning plate, this new design allows each key to have its own subtle flex and movement.

The result? A noticeably cushioned, bouncy typing feel and a much cleaner, more pleasant acoustic profile. Instead of the hollow or harsh sound common in many full-size boards, the V5 delivers a softer, more refined typing experience that punches well above its price range.

Physical Toggle Switches

Physical Toggle Switches

One common pain point on the previous generation was the mode switches. To change between Mac/Windows layouts or switch connectivity modes, you had to pop off the Caps Lock keycap to access hidden toggles underneath.

Akko listened. The 5108 V5 now features dedicated physical side switches. You can instantly toggle between Mac and Windows modes, or switch between 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and Wired connections without any tools or hassle. It’s a small change that makes a huge difference in daily convenience.

SOCD & Snap Key

For competitive gamers, the inclusion of SOCD (Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Directions) is a big deal. Snap Key (Akko’s adoption of SOCD) prioritizes the most recent input, giving you more precise and reliable movement in fast-paced titles like Valorant, CS2, and Apex Legends. No more conflicting inputs when pressing opposite directions — just smoother, more competitive gameplay.

Snap Key

Snap Key is Akko's implementation of SOCD, prioritizing the most recent keypress for swift directional changes without releasing previous inputs. This ensures fluid, responsive control in FPS games, where quick reactions and precise movement are crucial.

Mod-Tap

Mod Tap is a design that provides convenience for gaming. It enables the creation of dedicated or dual-functional keys based on key press behavior. A single keypress can achieve two functions: holding down the key for one function, and pressing the key for another, improving efficiency and control.

Endurance & Aesthetics

Battery life sees a massive upgrade with a 10,000mAh battery. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, allowing for much longer wireless use between charges — perfect for those who hate being tethered or constantly plugging in.

On the visual side, the limited IP collaboration versions (such as Piggy Party, Bun Wonderland, Lord of the Mysteries, etc.) now feature beautiful UV-printed artwork on the bottom case. These keyboards don’t just perform well — they look like genuine desk art pieces.

The Sound of Creamy: Akko Creamy Yellow U1 Switches

Out of the box, the 5108 V5 comes equipped with Akko’s new Creamy Yellow U1 switches. These linear switches are designed to deliver exactly what the name suggests: a smooth, creamy, and marbly sound signature that has been trending heavily in the custom keyboard community.

The typing feel is soft, deep, and satisfyingly thocky — excellent for long typing sessions and equally enjoyable for gaming.

Is the Old 5108 Completely Useless Now?

Not at all.

The original 5108 (or 5108B Plus) still has its own advantages:

  • It usually comes at a lower price point.
  • It features an adjustable tilt stand, giving you more freedom to fine-tune the typing angle.
  • Some users prefer the cleaner, more classic look of the older model without the visible physical side switches.

On the V5, Akko fixed the angle with a built-in slope/tilt for better ergonomics, but in doing so, they sacrificed some adjustability — partly to accommodate the beautiful IP artwork on the bottom case.

Additionally, if you already own a limited IP version of the older 5108, it remains a special piece. There’s no urgent need to upgrade unless you specifically want the gasket mount, physical switches, better battery, or new Creamy Yellow switches.

What do you think? Are you team V5 or still rocking the classic?
