Understanding Gasket Mounted Structure & Recommended Keyboards
About Mounting Style
A keyboard’s mounting style refers to how the plate or PCB is secured within the keyboard housing. To ensure these components are firmly held in place, the community has developed various mounting methods. Each method differs in rigidity and flexibility, impacting the assembly process, sound profile, and typing feel of the keyboard.
What is Gasket Mounted Structure Design?
A mechanical keyboard is composed of various components such as a mounting plate, multiple foam layers, and hot-swappable sockets. The mounting structure design refers to how the keyboard’s plate or PCB is positioned within the keyboard. In the Gasket Mounted Structure, the keyboard plate is secured between the top cover and bottom plate using gasket material, typically soft Poron pieces.
This design provides a cushioned typing experience with isolated PCB and plate system holding off by silicone gaskets.
What are the advantages of a gasket-mount design?
- Enhanced Typing Comfort: Gasket-mount keyboards excel in delivering a tactile experience. The silicone gaskets act as cushions for each keypress, providing a satisfying bounce, soft landing, and a consistent typing feel across the board. The plate’s ability to adapt to your keystrokes enhances the overall typing and gaming experience while reducing fatigue.
- Lessen Noise: Gasket-mounted keyboards naturally generate less noise compared to a top-mounted design. This is because the keyboard plate rests on a rubberized surface instead of making contact with a rigid component.
- Superior Durability: Gasket-mounted keyboards are built to last, using high-quality materials and precise engineering. The rubber gaskets act as shock absorbers, protecting internal components and ensuring the keyboard withstands heavy use. This design, which isolates key switches from the case, contributes significantly to the keyboard’s durability.
However, gasket-mounted keyboards are less common and more expensive because their unique manufacturing process adds complexity and cost.
What’s new with Akko’s gasket-mount mechanical keyboards?
Top-performing gasket-mount keyboards
JIN01 – Updated Sound Dampening Structure
Beyond the Gasket mount, Akko has also introduced the JIN01, our first keyboard with an integrated aluminum case design. Unlike traditional keyboards with separate top and bottom structures, the JIN01’s single-piece aluminum case eliminates the risk of pinging sounds commonly found in regular designs.
The JIN01 keyboard also features an upgraded 5-layer noise reduction system, setting it apart from standard designs. In addition to the usual foam layers, it includes an extra PET layer and a 3.0mm Poron case foam with socket cut-outs. These enhancements work together to provide superior sound insulation, effectively locking in sound and minimizing noise.
MU01
The Akko MU01 Series features a sophisticated design with a 68-key layout and a walnut wooden case. We offer three distinct styles: Mountain Seclusion, Joy of Life, and Autumn.
MOD007B
The Akko MOD007 Series perfectly balances space and function. With a 75% layout, gasket mount, and integrated knob, it delivers efficiency in a sleek, compact design.
