There are two main choices for light beads: 3mm rimless round headlight beads and 2x3x4mm square headlight beads. The choice between them depends on personal preference. It’s worth noting that the square lamp, with its thicker keycap wall, offers better compatibility. Also, when installed on the unsealed tin PCB board, the square lamp, when reversed, is less likely to fall off. General specifications for these light beads are 1.8 to 3.6V and less than 500mA. Please note that using RGB lamp beads is not recommended; actual tests only show monochrome red light.
Additional tips:
- For PCB boards with sealed tin lamp holes, it’s necessary to heat each lamp hole slightly to melt the solder before installing the lamp beads. For PCB boards without sealed tin, you can insert all the lamp beads and then solder each one individually. Both methods are common, and adding lights requires some hands-on ability. If you don’t have experience with soldering iron welding, proceed with caution.
- To change the light, you’ll need a soldering iron and solder wire. A soldering iron with a “knife head” is more efficient, and it’s advisable to have a bit of flux, such as rosin. You can change the keyboard to a single color or mix different colors. If you need to remove the lamp beads, a tin sucker is recommended.
- Keep in mind that after changing the light yourself, the keyboard will lose its warranty, and any issues that arise afterward will not be covered by our warranty. Please consider these factors carefully before attempting any modifications.
